Chapter 1. I Got Dragged into Another World and Somehow Ended Up with a Skill.
A skill that lets me buy anything I’d previously bought in Japan, but only up to 1,000 yen per day…
That was the skill I ended up with. And to be honest, I thought it had very obvious limitations.
After arriving in this world, I made a goal to just survive quietly and safely. But how was I supposed to build a stable life when I didn’t have any decent skills?
If possible, I wanted to avoid dealing with people with influence and just live a quiet, lowkey life.
Currently, I was standing on a road that supposedly leads to a fairly large city.
To sum up how I got into this situation, I, Imai Saki, am just a regular person who got caught up in a typical hero summoning scenario.
Apparently, this other world was facing some sort of crisis, so they summoned five high school students to save it. The thing is, I just happened to be standing at the edge of the magic circle when it happened… and got dragged along by accident.
I know that sounds completely absurd, but since I was someone who read a lot of web novels, I just thought that, ‘Ah, it’s that famous another world thing,’ and weirdly enough, I took it pretty calmly.
I was apparently about to fall through the edge of the summoning circle and vanish into who-knows-where, but some god from this world happened to catch me.
Yeah, yeah, classic setup.
In novels like these, it's usually the “oops, wrong person” type who turns out to be the real hero or the chosen one with an overpowered skill, but… yeah, that wasn’t happening here.
Just like that, I found myself in a strange, white space, face-to-face with a radiant god who looked like he stepped out of a fantasy game and spoke in a ridiculously pleasing voice.
“Sorry for dragging you into this mess,” god said.
“I have to ask, but is there any chance I could go back to my world?”
“That’s… not possible.”
Yeah, I figured. If it was possible, I wouldn’t still be here.
That said, even if I could go back, what was I really going back to? I had been barely surviving on a low salary at my family’s struggling business out in the countryside. My parents had passed away, I had a few friends but no boyfriend, and while I was getting by, I definitely didn't have any high hopes for the future.
So, hearing that I couldn’t return didn’t exactly send me into despair.
That said, I did often wonder whenever I was reading these kinds of novels; could a modern-day Japanese person, raised in peace and convenience, actually survive in a fantasy world?
“So… if I have to live in this world now, would it be possible to get some sort of support or help?” I asked, tilting my head slightly.
“Those who are summoned typically receive four basic skills: Sealing, Auto-Translation, Adaptation, and Storage. On top of that, you may be granted one skill based on your preference. However…”
Ah, of course. Because I was what you could call an irregularity, they didn’t have enough resources left to spare on me.
Apparently, there was a strict limit on how much divine power the god could grant, and they couldn’t go over it.
What a cruel world.
Anyways, I decided to ask about the four basic skills.
Sealing was a skill that can seal the miasma of this world and the Demon Lord it created. This was the whole reason people were being summoned. Because apparently, it could only be granted to people from other worlds. This meant that the summoning prioritized people with high potential in this skill.
I had it too, but was told my potential was so low that even with growth, sealing the Demon Lord would be impossible.
Auto-Translation basically lets you understand and speak the local language. When talking, it works automatically, you don’t even have to think about it. But that means you can accidentally start speaking their language without realizing it. Reading and writing takes serious focus. You can’t just glance at a sign and read it; you have to stare at it for a while to understand it. It’s kind of like trying to read English with a dictionary.
Adaptation seemed like a disease resistance skill. They added it because too many people were dying after being summoned. It adapts your body to this world’s environment so you wouldn’t get sick easily, especially from local diseases. It also helps you be able to eat this world’s food without getting food poisoned.
Lowkey the most important skill, honestly.
Lastly, the storage skill. It is a small space about the size of a four-and-a-half tatami mat room. Time is frozen inside, but you can’t store anything living. You could summon a list of the things inside and move things in and out with a thought. Pretty convenient.
Even these basic skills already used up a lot of the god’s remaining resources.
And it’s not like I could just say, “Okay, take one of those away,” since they were still necessary. I mean, I did think about cutting the Sealing skill since it seemed useless to me, but apparently, it was a required part of the summoning process and can't be removed. How unfortunate.
So the only question left was, what skill could I get with the tiny bit of the god's power that was left?
“I’d really like something that helps with basic survival. Food, shelter, clothing, that kind of thing.”
That was the core of what I hoped for.
I needed a skill that would at least let me survive.
Of the three, I was most worried about food. Japanese cuisine set the bar way too high.
“Is there any chance I could get some kind of food delivery or ordering skill?”
From all the stuff I had read online, a skill like online shopping for another world seemed insanely useful. I mean, just the thought of not being able to eat Japanese food anymore was depressing.
“Delivery, huh… I see,” the god said, nodding slightly.
“It’s possible, but the limitations would be pretty extreme due to the remaining resources.”
Wait!? It’s possible!?
…Also, did god just read my mind?
If it’s possible, then I want it. No hesitation.
“The online shopping-style system you’re imagining is too much. Since it works through your connection to the other world, it has to be something you’ve bought before. This means that you can't order something you don't know and you haven't bought. You also need to specify the item, and you could buy it at the price you paid at that time.”
So basically, if I thought of something I’d purchased before, I could get it again at that same price? And if I didn’t know the item, I couldn’t order it? Makes sense.
“And… you wouldn’t be able to pay with this world’s currency either.”
Wait, huh? So I could only pay using Japanese yen?
What did that even mean?
The god glanced upward, as if checking some floating data, then looked back at me.
“Your limit would be based on your savings, property, and assets from your original world. That works out to about 8 million yen.”
“8 million yen…?”
Wow, I guess the rural property I inherited from my parents was worth more than I thought? I mean, in reality, they’d never sell for that much. Mountain plots are basically worthless. This must’ve been based on the assessed property value or something.
Still, with 8 million yen, I could buy quite a lot. Maybe even resell stuff here to make a profit?
“Additionally, you'll only be able to use about 1,000 yen per day. With that restriction, the skill should be feasible.”
1,000 yen… per day…?
Isn't that… way too tight? Hmm, it may be manageable if I think of it as a daily food allowance, no?
That would be about 30,000 yen a month.
Yeah, doable… maybe. But rice alone could easily cost more than 1,000 yen, so…
“Um, what if I want something that costs more than 1,000 yen?”
“You could buy it by weight or quantity. Per gram, for example.”
Wait, it supports bulk pricing!?
But still—
“There are some things you can’t divide up, though.”
I brought up the issue of clothes. Sure, you could find clothes under 1,000 yen, but good luck finding something wearable. What if I had to buy sleeves separately and sew them myself? That's a bit too much, no?
“Can I at least save up the daily amount and make bigger purchases later?”
If I can't buy it all at once, I can just save up and buy it later! Is what I thought.
Apparently, I couldn’t save up the amount directly. But if I wanted, say, a 2,980 yen skirt, I could wish for it, and it would arrive three days later, once the daily amount added up.
I had to be careful, though. If I accidentally wished for something ridiculously expensive, like a 1 million yen ring, the skill would be unusable for years. Not that I’d ever bought something like that!
Oh, but I could cancel requests as long as the item hadn’t arrived yet. I just wouldn’t get the spent money back.
Alright, fine. That's good enough. I’ll take that skill!
I still had one last thing to ask though.
“Um… is it possible to adjust the Storage skill a bit?”
I wanted to at least handle the shelter part too.
“How so?”
Ooh, it's possible?
“I was thinking… if it were about the size of a four-and-a-half tatami mat room, I could at least sleep there. I figured the time-stop part probably costs a lot of resources, so what if we removed that and made it so only I could go inside?”
After a lot of negotiation, we settled on a two-tatami-mat-sized space, no time-stop and with a manual entry system. I could summon a door with just a thought. It basically turned into a fun little hideout just for me.
The catch was that everything inside had to be put in and taken out manually, literally by hand. Normally, it would’ve come with features like mental access and an item list, but we scrapped all of that to save on resources.
Only I could see or enter the storage space. And while I was inside, it seemed like no one else could perceive me at all. From the outside, I’d just vanish and reappear out of thin air.
I sacrificed the time-stop and some of the space, but I had zero regrets.
With this, I could at least manage food, clothing, and shelter. Right?
